The IVF Process
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a medical process involving several precise steps. I walk you through each one so you know exactly what to expect.
Initial consultation
We discuss your medical history, perform hormonal and ultrasound investigations, and establish the most suitable stimulation protocol. This is the time to ask any questions you may have.
Ovarian stimulation
Injectable hormones are given for 10–14 days to stimulate the growth of multiple follicles. We monitor the ovarian response through repeated ultrasounds and blood tests.
Follicular aspiration
Egg retrieval via a minimally invasive procedure under light sedation. It takes approximately 20 minutes, followed by a few hours of recovery.
Laboratory fertilization
The eggs are fertilized with the partner's sperm in the laboratory. The resulting embryos are cultured for 3–5 days, until the blastocyst stage.
Embryo transfer
One or two embryos are transferred into the uterine cavity through a simple, painless procedure without anaesthesia. A pregnancy test is performed 10–14 days after the transfer.
Support & monitoring
Support medication continues after the transfer. Whatever the result, I am with you at every next step.
